2015 Football Signees announced
The Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) Yellowjackets and Head Coach Bill Quistorff are proud to announce the initial signees for their 2015 recruiting class. An official football signing event will be held on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:00 pm in the All-American room at the Regional Sports Center.
The YellowJackets finished the 2014 season with an 8-4 record. The Yellowjackets topped off the season by capturing their fifth consecutive Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 40-21 victory over Central Lakes College of Brainerd and then participated in the Graphic Edge Bowl versus Iowa Central for the second consecutive season.
Coach Quistorff and the Yellowjackets coaching staff went into this recruiting season looking to build from the success of last season. The Yellowjacket offense, led by QB Nick Rooney and others, broke nearly every single Yellowjacket football passing record. The defense also finished strong, leading the nation in sacks and causing seven turnovers in the state championship game.
This year’s class includes two familiar players in the Rochester area. Aaron Quandt, the starting quarterback of a very strong Stewartville football team has signed to play for RCTC as well as Rochester Mayo offensive lineman Ryan Burton. Both are strong additions to a class that the RCTC coaching staff is very excited about.
Other players to keep an eye on in this class are Connor Watts, a wide receiver from a state championship team in Mankato West. CJ Schwintek was a starting running back for the state champion Becker Bulldogs.
Two exciting playmakers have been added to the receiving corps as well, Shavar Holliday and Isaiah Smith. Holliday was an excellent athlete in Alabama and was recruited by SEC programs out of high school. Smith played his freshman year at Iowa State, and is one of the fastest players the Yellowjackets have ever recruited.
Several strong players have been added to the offensive line from Minnesota. Joseph Warner (St Louis Park), Great Ogboru (Robbinsdale Cooper), and Travis Mollen (Osseo) will provide depth and competition for immediate playing time. Devin McCallister, a tackle from Michigan, is also expected to compete for immediate playing time on an offensive line that returns six players with playing experience from a year ago.
Defensively, the Yellowjackets have landed commitments from additional solid players. Garrett Pemelton from Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (MN) High School and Shedrick Dennis, a 300-pound defensive tackle from Lincoln (MI) High School will anchor a rebuilt defensive line that was a force last season. Tydre Bradley will be an excellent addition to an already solid returning linebacking corps, led by local stalwarts Tommy Fjelsted and Cody Stanger.
This list is just the initial signing phase for RCTC, as players will continue to be added throughout the spring. With this excellent group of recruits in place, the RCTC coaching staff will continue to work toward the goal of making a run at a national championship in the 2015 season.
