5 Things to Know About Instructor Chad Israelson
If you haven’t already, read our profile on Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) instructor Chad Israelson. He’s put in nearly two decades of teaching at RCTC, and we found out some fun facts about the longtime instructor in a recent chat with him.
He wrote a book about Bob Dylan, “The Political World of Bob Dylan”
“Sometimes I’ll amuse myself by just putting a Dylan line into my lecture that probably one or zero people catch onto, just a way to keep myself sharp,” he laughs. The book was written with former Rochester Community and Technical College science instructor, Jeff Taylor.
He’s a huge supporter of the Vikings
“That’s another one of my passions. I’m hoping to finish a book on the Minnesota Vikings, actually.”
“Ever since I was a little kid I just got bit by that bug. It’s been a relationship that hasn’t been as rewarding as teaching, obviously. I’m very loyal; I can’t give it up.”
He is a fan of rap group N.W.A.
“A lot of (students) would be surprised that I’m conversant in some of the music that I am, perhaps. I went to see “Straight Outta Compton” one of the first days it came out,” he says with a laugh. “And I own that album.”
He really wants you to follow your dreams
“Ultimately, my advice would be to students, don’t give up, don’t sell yourself short. Sometimes it’s hard and it seems like the end is not near enough… but fight through it. Fight through it and chase whatever goal it is, and don’t let yourself be deterred from it.
“And come to class. The number one thing you can do for student success is to come to class. Make that commitment.”
He rocked the best-ever Mickey Mouse shirt
Israelson was 6, it was the American bicentennial, and he was rocking a shirt depicting Mickey Mouse crossing the Delaware River. If you don’t know what this means, just Google “crossing of the Delaware,” and the famous image of George Washington will pop up. You’ve probably seen it before.
