Disc Golf on the way to Nationals
The Rochester Community and Technical College Disc Golf Club recently won an automatic bid to the 2016 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship. This fall, club members Clay Ebertowski, Dominique Whitehorn, Eric Jenneke, James Sandifer, Justin Kindle, Nate Zaske, Steven Gabrielson, Dan Seechan and Tim Bowe traveled to two different collegiate tournaments. On October 2-4, 2015, the club went to Ottumwa, Iowa for the Heartland Collegiate Disc Golf Championship. This was the club’s third year attending this tournament, and this time they missed qualifying for the nationals by only one throw.
Since they were so close and felt they had a solid chance, the club decided to try to qualify again by attending another qualifying tournament. This time they traveled to Burlington, Iowa, to participate in the Burlington Collegiate Scholarship Championship, which was held on November 6-8, 2015. The club had excellent rounds in both the team and the individual competitions. RCTC landed a second-place win and automatic bid to the nationals, which will be held next April in North Augusta, South Carolina.
Club member James Sandifer also received special recognition for his outstanding individual play since he finished with the lowest number of throws overall. The club is very excited, and they are starting to prepare for next spring’s national tournament.
