Eight RCTC Students Earn NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards

NJCAAAcademicAwardWinnersRochester Community and Technical College is proud to announce eight student-athletes have been recognized by National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for its 2015-2016 Academic Student-Athlete Awards. Honoring academic performance throughout each individual’s collegiate career, there are three classifications of the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards based on the following cumulative GPA qualifications:

Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence: 4.00 GPA
Superior Academic Achievement Award: 3.80-3.99 GPA
Exemplary Academic Achievement Award: 3.60-3.79 GPA

Brandon Bergene, a Southland High School graduate, played as a freshman on RCTC’s golf team.  Brandon received NJCAA’s Superior Academic Achievement Award.

Callie-HanleyCallie Hanley, a native of Dover, MN, was a setter on RCTC’s NJCAA National Championship Volleyball team in 2015-2016.  Callie received NJCAA’s Exemplary Academic Achievement Award for her off the court academic performance.

 

 

 

E_005_DSC_0765_Christina_4_1A native of Stewartville, MN, Christina Stanger, was a member of RCTC’s women’s softball team and received NJCAA’s Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.

 

 

 

 

Kamrey-GarlickKamery Garlick, a graduate of Maple Grove High School, was a member of RCTC’s 2015-2016 state championship football team. Kamery received NJCAA’s Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.

 

 

 

Nick-RooneyA native of Minnetonka, Nicolas Rooney, was quarterback for RCTC’s state championship football team. Nick received NJCAA’s Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.  In addition, Nick was named to first-team All-America by the NJCAA in football and set three national records and multiple college records while playing at RCTC.

 

 

 

Spencer-Tollefson_1A native of New Richland, MN, Spencer Tollefson earned a 4.0 GPA and received NJCAA’s highest academic award, the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence.

 

 

 

 

 

Tyler_VogtTyler Vogt is from Owatonna, Minnesota and was a member of RCTC’s wrestling team in 2015-2016. Tyler received NJCAA’s Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.  In addition, Tyler was the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Champion and a National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) national qualifier.

 

 

 

 

Victoria-PetersonVictoria Peterson, a graduate of Fillmore Central High School, was a member of the RCTC NJCAA National Championship Volleyball team in 2015 and received NJCAA’s Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.

 

 

 

About the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards
Formerly known as NJCAA Academic All-America honors, the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards program has annually recognized the academic success of the association’s student-athletes since the program’s inception in 1983. Nominations are submitted by each student-athlete’s respective institution.
