Baseball

The baseball Yellowjackets took on Western Technical College, Ridgewater College, and Minnesota State Community and Technical College over the last week and came away winning all games.

On Wednesday, April 22, the Yellowjackets took on Western, winning 14-2 and 8-1.

The first game, Taylor Christopher, Dakota Larson, Alek Zentzis, John Brown, and Zach Bakko each scored two runs, and Damon Nuss, Dustin Nelson, Ben Glomski, and Austin Baab each scored one. Nelson had three RBIs and Christopher stole a base. The team wrapped up that game in six innings.

The second game, Nelson scored three runs, Logan Fuller scored two, and Richard Borquez-Mejias, Larson, and Jake Poe each scored one. Nelson hit a homerun, had three RBIs, and stole a base.

On Saturday, April 24, the Yellowjackets finished Ridgewater in seven innings both games, 7-1 and 15-0.

The first game, Christopher, Nuss, Nelson, Baab, Bakko, Poe, and Zach Wixo each scored a run. Larson, Brown, and Bakko each had two RBIs. Nelson and Bakko each stole a base.

The second game, Poe scored three runs, Nelson, Zentzis, Rosario, and Brown each scored two runs, and Nuss, Baab, Bakko, and Josh Concepcion each scored one run.

Nuss, Zentzis, and Brown each had two RBIs and Brown stole a base.

Pitcher Bryndyn Shipquist allowed two hits out of the 23 batters he faced.

Next the Yellowjackets traveled to Fergus Falls to play MN State, beating them both games, 10-7 and 6-1.

Poe, Bakko, and Rosario each scored two runs the first game, and Christopher, Nuss, Brown, and Wixo each scored a run.

Rosario hit a homerun and Zentzis had three RBIs.

The second game, Nelson had two runs, and Christopher, Nuss, Poe, and Bakko each scored once. Larson had two RBIs and Christopher and Nelson each stole a base.

The Yellowjackets play next on Wednesday, April 29, at home against St. Mary’s JV team at 5 p.m. The team is 23-6 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

 

Softball

The softball Yellowjackets played and won Friday and Saturday to move to third place in the conference for regional tournament play.

On Friday, April 24, the Yellowjackets took on Ridgewater, winning both games, 9-3 and 6-4.

Christina Stanger and Amber Gehrke each scored two runs the first game, and Ashley Bunting, Haley Vanourney, Laura Chalmers, Alexie Schunke, and Katie Gatzlaff each scored one. Chalmers, Schunke, and Gehrke each hit a homerun. Chalmers also had three RBIs. Bunting stole a base.

The second game, Bunting, Vanourney, Stanger, Chalmers, Schunke, and Gatzlaff each scored a run. Chalmers had two RBIs and Stanger stole a base.

On Saturday, April 25, the Yellowjackets took on MN State, winning 10-1 in six innings and 17-4 in five innings.

The first game, Vanourney scored three runs, Stanger and Gatzlaff each scored two, and Bunting, Kristen Erickson, and Jordan O’Connor each scored one run. Gehrke hit a triple and Bunting stole a base. Chalmers and Gehrke each had two RBIs.

The Yellowjackets play next on Tuesday, April 28, at 3 p.m. versus Minnesota West here at RCTC.

The Regional tournament play starts May 7. The NJCAA Tournament will be held in Rochester May 14-16 whether or not the Yellowjackets make it. The Yellowjackets are currently ranked fifth in the NJCAA DIII Top 10 National Poll.
