Last Week in Athletics for April 6, 2015

Baseball

The baseball team grabbed two wins on Friday, April 3.

The first game, RCTC won over Mesabi Range, 2-1.

Austin Baab and Anthony Rosario made it home for a point each.

Later in the day, the Yellowjackets blew away Rainy River 14-1. Five runs in the fourth inning and six in the sixth brought the game to a close. Richard Borquez-Mejias and John Brown made it home three times, Jake Poe twice, and Logan Fuller, Alex Zentzis, Ben Glomski, Garrett Zander, and Zach Eggers once each.

The Yellowjackets play next on Tuesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at Kirkwood Community College. The team is 11-4 overall.

 

Softball

The softball team came away this past weekend with three loses and one win.

On Friday, April 3, the Yellowjackets went up against St. Cloud Tech, which is ranked sixth in NJCAA polls. Both games were lost by one point.

The first game the Yellowjackets lost 8-9.

Ashley Bunting and Christina Stanger each ran home twice, and Haley Vanourney, Katie Gatzlaff, Lanie McCauly, and Amber Gehrke each grabbed one run for the team. Bunting stole two bases and Vanourney and Gehrke each stole a base.

The second game against St. Cloud Tech, the Yellowjackets lost 7-8. The game started with St. Cloud Tech getting five runs in the first inning. The Yellowjackets did their best to catch up, scoring seven runs total and holding St. Cloud to one run in each of the third, fifth, and sixth innings.

Bunting, Gatzlaff, Stanger, Gehrke, Kristen Erickson, Ashleigh Dralle, and Magi Card each made it home once. Bunting stole three basses this game and Gatzlaff stole one.

The Yellowjackets play next on Tuesday, April 7, at Riverland Community College at 3 p.m. The team is 11-12 overall and is ranked third in NJCAA National Polls.
