The Yellowjacket Softball Team finished up the season with a 31-15 record and four wins last week.
On Tuesday, May 3, they took on Minnesota West, winning 11-0 and 15-2.
The first game, Haley Vanourney, Quincy Gross, and McKayle Ahlrich scored two runs each. Sammy Hogan had three RBIs, Christina Stanger and Vanourney two each, and Page Gadient, Ashleigh Dralle, Makayla Kaeppel one each. Vanourney, Gross, and Kaeppel each stole a base.
Batter Gross faced 25 batters and allowed four hits.
The second game, Gadient scored three runs, and Vanourney, Hogan, Stanger, and Ahlrich each scored two. Kaeppel hit a homerun and had four RBIs. Hogan had three RBIs, Vanourney and Shantell Loos two each, and Gadient and Gross one each. Vanourney and Stanger each stole a base.
Pitcher Hogan face 23 batters and allowed two hits.
On Thursday, May 5, the Yellowjackets faced Riverland and won 14-2 after five innings and 15-1 after five innings.
The first game, Gadient and Vanourney each scored four runs. Hogan and Stanger each scored two. Vanourney and Hogan each scored a homerun. Hogan had four RBIs, Vanourney and Stanger three, Gross two, and Dralle and Kaeppel one each. Gadient stole three bases during the game. Vanourney, Hogan and Gross each stole one.
The second game, Vanourney and Hogan each scored three runs, and Gadient, Stanger, and Dralle two each. Vanourney and Hogan each schored a homerun. Vanourney had four RBIs, Hogan three, and Gadient, Stanger, and Dralle one each. Gadient stole two bases.
The Yellowjackets finished second in conference and are ranked seventh in NJCAA Division III National Polls. Regional play starts on Thursday, May 12.
The baseball Yellowjackets finished up regular season play on Sunday with Fan Appreciation and a 20-17 overall record.
On Tuesday, May 3, the baseball team took on Minnesota West and won 20-8 and 14-3.
The first game, John Brown, Austin Baab, Dustin Nelson, and Anthony Rosario each scored three runs. Nelson and Jimmy Anderson each hit a homerun. Nelson had six RBIs, Zach Bakko four, Baab, Anderson, and Damon Nuss two each, and Logan Fuller and Brown one each.
The second game, Fuller had three runs, and Brown, Baab, Nelson, and Ross Withington two each. Baab hit two homeruns and had six RBIs. Nelson and Nuss each hit a homerun and had two RBIs each. Brown, Rosario, and Arron Hohensee each had one RBI. Brown, Fuller, and Nelson each stole a base.
On Saturday, May 7, the Yellowjackets played Riverland, losing close games, 4-6 and 11-12.
The first game was tied up at the bottom of the sixth, but Riverland pulled away in the seventh.
Nelson, Withington, Ernest Lemay Jr, and Michael Sigrist each scored a run. Brown had two RBIs, and Rosario and Walker Linde each had one.
The second game was also close, the teams tied at the bottoms of the seventh, but Riverland managed one run more than the Yellowjackets.
Hohensee scored three runs, and Baab and Rosario two each. Nelson hit a homerun and had five RBIs. Baab had two RBIs, and Nuss, Rosario, and Hohensee each had one. Lemay and Hohensee each stole a base.
Sunday, May 8, the Yellowjacket played Minnesota West at fan appreciation, winning 11-0 and 11-7.
The first game, Fuller scored three runs, and Brown and Nuss two each. Baab had four RBIs, Linde three, and Brown, Nelson, Nuss, and Anderson one each. Fuller, Nelson, Anderson, and Lemay each stole a base.
The second game, Baab, Nelson, Nuss, and Lemay each scored three runs. Nuss and Matt Founttain had two RBIs each, and Baab, Nelson, Brok Schwartzkopf, and Joe Helmer one each. Nelson stole three bases and Nuss and Lemay each stole one base.
The Yellowjackets finished second in the division. Southern Division play-in starts Friday, May 13, and the State and Region Tournament starts Thursday, May 19.
