After a slow start, the Yellowjacket football team pulled itself together and came out on top during the first MCAC playoff game on Saturday, Oct. 24, winning 30-12 against Fond du Lac.
At halftime, Fond du Lac was ahead 6-3, but the Yellowjackets added 20 points in the third quarter and rounded out the fourth with an additional seven points.
Nick Rooney passed 234 yards for three touchdowns.
Patrick Bolton had 12 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Montrel Moore rushed 117 yards.
Lakye Alston had a fumble recovery and two interceptions.
The semifinals are this Saturday, Oct. 31, against Dakota College. The Yellowjackets are ranked second in the country in NJCAA national polls.
The volleyball team played on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, sweeping two and winning the other match 3-1 to bring its conference standing to 12-0.
On Wednesday’s game against Riverland, the Yellowjackets swept with set scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-13.
Ashely Bichel took the lead with kills with 10 during the match. Jessica Foster had 34 assists as well as an ace serve. Tori Peterson had four service aces as well. Carly McCabe led the pack with 15 digs.
On Friday, the Yellowjackets traveled to Willmar to take on Ridgewater, sweeping them with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-11.
Maria Tibesar and Bichel had eight kills each. Foster had 24 assists. McCabe had 19 digs.
On Saturday, the Yellowjackets headed up to Fergus Falls to take on Minnesota State, with set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-23.
Peterson had 16 kills, Bichel had 13, and Jesnasha Jamison had 12. Foster had a huge 51 assists. McCabe came away with 25 digs.
The Yellowjackets play next on Wednesday, Oct. 28, against Anoka-Ramsey here at home, which will be the last conference game. On Nov. 6, the Yellowjackets will be in the Region 13A tournaments to determine who will play in the NJCAA Division III national tournament.
The soccer team wrapped up its season last Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Region 13 championship tournament in St. Paul. The Yellowjackets lost to Anoka-Ramsey 9-1.
The team finished the season 6-8-1 overall and 4-1-1 in conference.
