After a slow first quarter, the Yellowjackets got in gear to win Saturday, Oct. 3, 59-8 over Fond du Lac.

Despite Fond du Lac’s defense, the Yellowjackets were able to get ahead strong. Nick Rooney completed 25 of 39 passes for 424 yards and three touchdowns.

Jalen Esters caught eight passes for 137 yards and a touchdown.

A special teams play by James Lassa picked up a fumble and went eight yards for a touchdown. The defense had four sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

The Yellowjackets play next on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Mesabi Range at 1:30 p.m. The Yellowjackets are ranked first in the state and are now fifth in NJCAA national polls.



The Yellowjacket volleyball team traveled to Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 3, for the NIACC tournament, winning both matches.

First the Yellowjackets took on Ellsworth, sweeping the match with 25-13, 25-12, and 25-20 set scores.

Tori Peterson had 16 kills during the match. Jessica Foster had 28 assists and eight digs. Johanna Bungum followed closely with seven digs. Peterson had a total of 17 points.

The Yellowjackets then took on NIACC, squeaking by 3-2, with set scores of 21-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23, and 15-12.

Peterson had 20 kills this match. Foster had 45 assists. Carly McCabe had 15 digs. Peterson had 20.5 points total this match.

The Yellowjackets play next on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Western. The team is ranked first in the state and sixth in NJCAA national polls.



The Yellowjacket soccer team brought home two wins over the weekend.

The team played Century College on Friday, Oct. 2, winning 8-4.

Monica Mischke scored three goals, Shannon DeMuth and Hayley Aranda each scored two, and Abby Ramierez scored on goal.

Goalkeeper Maddie Hardtke had six saves.

On Friday, the team traveled to Duluth to play Lake Superior, winning 8-1.

Takota Tierney scored three goals, with Monica Vincent, Mischke, DeMuth, Aranda, and Ramierez each scoring one goal.

Hardtke have four saves.

The Yellowjackets play next on Friday, Oct. 9 at Anoka-Ramsey at 4 p.m.
