Michael Wenzel elected Student President
JaKhari May was also running for president.
Both candidates gave speeches before the Student Senate body at 2 p.m. followed by voting by club representatives. Each Student Life Club gets one vote. Wenzel won by majority vote.
Wenzel was elected April 2014 for Student President 2014-15. He chairs the Student Senate and Student Life Finance Committees, as well as various other committees and groups, including the Strategic Planning Task Force, the joint Advisory Council with WSU, and the Minnesota State College Student Association Presidents’ group.
Wenzel is from Rochester and began at RCTC in 2012 in the Computer Science program. He eventually wants to earn his bachelor’s degree in computer science or go to law school.
With his election for the 2015-16 academic year, Wenzel is the first Student President to run for and be elected to a second term. It has always been in the Student Senate constitution that presidents could run for a second term, but this is the first time this has happened at RCTC in the Senate’s 93-year history.
