Photos: Horticulture Students Take Part in Controlled Prairie Burn
Last month Rochester Community and Technical College Horticulture Instructor Robin Fruth-Dugstad held class outside to perform a prairie burning.
Fruth-Dugstad says the “prescribed burns clear invaders and restore diversity” to the prairie.
Students enjoyed the good weather and the experience, as was evident with the smiling faces that day.
The burn happens quickly, so everyone — who had already done practice burns — were ready to calmly and correctly fix any issues that arose (leading the flame too slowly, for example).
