RCTC Announces Operation Purple Heart and Super Heroes
Rochester Community and Technical College is proud to announce Operation Purple Heart and Super Heroes—an initiative that creates reserved parking for active military personnel, military veterans, police officers, and fire department personnel. RCTC is the first college among Minnesota State colleges and universities to create such parking.
RCTC is hosting an “unveiling” of the specially marked parking on Thursday in the east parking lot of RCTC’s Main Campus. This event has added significance because it is also the US Marine Corps’ birthday and the eve of Veterans Day.
RCTC plans to set aside 16 parking spots for veterans who have been honored with the Purple Heart. In addition, 16 parking spots have been designated for Super Hero parking—spots reserved for active military personnel, military veterans, police officers, and fire department personnel.
RCTC student and veteran, Greg Gardner, proposed creating reserved parking for Purple Heart and Super Heros at RCTC. Gardner also leads the RCTC Armed Forces and Veterans club. The Armed Forces and Veterans Club serves more than 200 veterans currently enrolled at RCTC, and is open to all RCTC students who are interested in supporting our troops and veterans.
RCTC was one of the first Minnesota State colleges and universities to be recognized as a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Campus in 2010. The College is proud to be a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization and will continue to serve and honor our veterans, military service members, and their families.
