RCTC Celebrates 100th Commencement
Rochester Community and Technical College is proud to announce its 100th annual commencement ceremony to be held in the Regional Sports Center on Thursday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m.
RCTC will be graduating 1,040 students; 183 of whom will graduate with high honors (a grade point average of 3.75 or above). Additionally, 135 students will graduate with honors (a grade point average of 3.5 – 3.749).
Keynote speakers for the 2016 commencement ceremony include two alumni: Robert Butler, a 2011 RCTC graduate; and Ashley Jagodzinski, a 2014 RCTC graduate.
Robert Butler is a speaker, educator, life coach, and certified social worker. Recognized for his gifted speaking ability, Robert was selected to speak at the 2016 TEDx forum at the University of Central Arkansas. His wisdom and insights have taken many by storm, making him a sought after speaker at events across the country. Robert also volunteers to speak at prisons and engages the lives of youth through the K-12 system. Robert recently defended his graduate thesis on College Preparation for African American Males, and received his Master of Science Degree in College Student Personnel Services and Administration.
Ashley Jagodzinski has been extremely involved in the Rochester community—while at RCTC and with the Make A-Wish foundation. As a lifelong patient of the Mayo Clinic, Ashley has faced many obstacles to get where she is today including multiple surgeries to help correct a heart defect. Ashley admits that she would not change a second of her journey as it has made her the person she is today. Being a part of the community has given her an outlet through public speaking to share her story of overcoming medical adversity, and she hopes to inspire others. After graduating from RCTC, Ashley continued her education and recently graduated from Winona State University.
The Chair of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees, Michael Vekich, will also be addressing the graduates. Trustee Vekich was a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2002, and served as chair for four years. In 2010, then Governor Tim Pawlenty appointed Vekich to the MnSCU Board of Trustees for another six-year term.
