HLC QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Part of the assessment process includes connecting co-curricular activities to the institutional learning outcomes. What are co-curricular activities? What examples are there at RCTC?

Co-curricular refers to activities, programs, and learning experiences that complement, in some way, what students are learning in school—i.e., experiences that are connected to or mirror the academic curriculum. Co-curricular activities are typically, but not always, defined by their separation from academic courses.

At RCTC, these activities include the Student Senate, honor societies such as Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Delta Nu, program clubs and organizations such as the Law Enforcement and Automotive Clubs, and other similar groups.

RCTC WRESTLING TEAM WINS NATIONAL DIII CHAMPIONSHIP
RCTC’s Yellowjacket wrestling team added the 2017 NJCAA National Division III Championship to its long list of accomplishments this year. Two weeks ago the Yellowjackets won the 2017 Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Region 13 North District Tournament Championship. The Yellowjackets are also the MCAC Dual Meet Champions of the Year and the MCAC Conference Champions for the fifth straight year. RCTC finished ninth in the nation among all NJCAA teams.

Recently named MCAC Wrestler of the Year, Brett Bradford (Byron, MN) finished second in the 157# weight class. Coltan Laganiere (Kasson, MN) advanced to the semifinals and finished sixth at 149#. RCTC freshman Alfred Daniel (Manhattan, NY) finished fourth at 165#. Bradford, Laganiere and Daniel earned All-American honors.

“The national tournament was a great experience for our program,” stated RCTC Head Wrestling Coach Randy Rager. “The hard work that our guys put in during the season has paid off. This group is more than a team, it is a family.”

Randy Rager was named 2017 NJCAA Division III National Coach of the year for the second time and also named 2017 MCAC Wrestling Coach of the Year for the fifth time.
