RCTC Student Government and KTTC Partner To Present Rochester Mayoral Debate
(Rochester, MN) — Rochester Community and Technical College’s Student Government and KTTC Television are teaming up to present a Rochester mayoral candidate debate on Tuesday, July 24th at 5:30PM in the RCTC Heintz Center Commons. The 60-mintute debate will be moderated by KTTC news anchor Tom Overlie.
While not specifically designated as an education-focused debate, RCTC student leaders want candidates to share their views on important issues concerning students including housing and transportation. RCTC Student President Drew Brinker and Mental Health Awareness Club President Prakash Peethambaram are spearheading this event. “We are organizing this debate to provide an opportunity for younger voters to make their voices heard and learn about the candidates. We hope that this will encourage younger people to cast ballots and participate in government.”
There are currently seven candidates vying for the city’s top elected position including BW (Brent) Coggins, Jordan James Glynn, Spencer Goetzman, Regina Mustafa, Kim Norton, Charlie O’Connell, and George Rownd. Current Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede is retiring after serving more than 15 years in office.
Due to parking lot construction on the west side of the Heintz Center, all visitors must use the East Lot and enter through door H8 (Workforce Center entrance). The RCTC Heintz Center is located at 1926 College View Road.
