Volleyball ends great season in NJCAA Regionals
The fourth-ranked Yellowjacket Women’s Volleyball team went 1-1 for the week ending November 10th. The Yellowjackets picked up a 3-1 win against St. Could Tech in the NJCAA Region 13A semi-final game. With that win, the Yellowjackets secured their spot in the finals. They faced rival Ridgewater in the championship match. After 4 hard-fought sets, the teams each had won 2, which would force them to play a 5th and final set. Sadly, Ridgewater took the final set by only 2 points, beating RCTC 16-14. All in all, the RCTC Yellowjackets had a very successful season finishing off the year with a 26-6 record overall.
In Friday’s game against St. Cloud Tech, Taylor Aakre (Elgin, MN) led the team, scoring 16 points on 13 kills, 2 digs, and 3 blocks. Jenica Gerber (Rochester, MN) trailed Aakre by a single point. Gerber had 14 kills, a serve ace, and 9 digs. Chanda Reidemann (LeRoy, MN) scored 13 points for the Yellowjackets – 11 kills, a serve ace, 7 digs, and a block. Lindsay Ayers (Waterville, MN) recorded 46 assists, 13 digs, 5 kills, and 2 blocks against St. Cloud Tech. Haley Lenz (Rochester, MN) managed 27 digs, a serve ace, and a kill for the team.
The Yellowjackets took on the Ridgewater Warriors on Saturday in the Regional Championship game. After 5 close sets, Ridgewater pulled off the win. Gerber led the team in kills and points against the Warriors. She managed 13 kills, 19 digs, 1 block, and 1 block ace – totaling 14.5 points. Reidemann recorded 12 kills, 1 assist, 12 digs, and 1 block ace, scoring 12.5 points for the Yellowjackets. Aakre had 10 kills, 2 assists, 7 digs, 3 blocks, and 1 block ace. Ayers recorded 40 assists, 30 digs, 4 kills, and 1 block against Ridgewater. Lenz managed 27 digs and 1 serve ace for the team. Natalie Reinardy (Cannon Falls, MN) also picked up 12 digs against the Warriors.
Jenica Gerber and Lindsay Ayers were named All-Tournament Team. Coach Amber Zitzow was named MCAC Southern Divison Co-Coach of the Year.
