Yellowjacket Soccer, Volleyball blow away competition
Yellowjacket Volleyball and Soccer had a great weekend, while Football endured a close loss to rival Central Lakes.
Volleyball hosted an invitation on Friday and Saturday. They bested Ellsworth Community College 3-1 and Bismarck State College 3-2.
Against Ellsworth, Brianna Atkins had 16 kills and 10 digs. Danielle Adams had seven kills, Amberlee Dunagan had 19 digs and 27 assists, Haley Lenz added 31 digs, Natalie Reinardy had 28 digs, and Josie Hale had 10 digs.
In the match against Bismarck, Atkins had 28 kills and 19 digs. Emily Kingland had 10 kills, Dunagan 24 kills and 41 assists, Renardy 30 digs, Hale 17, and Lenz had 40 digs.
On top of that, two Individual Single Match records were broken. Brianna Atkins vs. Ridgewater (Aug. 30) had 34 kills, which beat the previous record of 32 by Terri Fowler in 1991. Haley Lenz vs. Bismarck had 40 digs, beating her previous record of 37 last season.
Their next game is Wednesday, Sept. 17, at home vs. Riverland. It’s also Fan Appreciation Night at that game.
The Yellowjacket Soccer team blew past Bismarck State College 7-0 on Saturday at Fan Appreciation Night.
Emma Zahn had two goals and two assists, Abigail Ramirez and Kelsey Alyward each scored two goals, and Michele Cook had one goal and one assist. Courtney Hvlaka had three assists and Brittany Pond had one assist.
Goalie Kathryn Brainerd blocked three shots from Bismarck.
The Yellowjackets’ next game is the Homecoming game on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m.
The RCTC Football team faced its fiercest rival on Saturday on their turf and lost by only four points at 37-41. Both RCTC and CLC are the only two Minnesota teams in the NJCAA’s top twenty football rankings.
Going into the fourth quarter, RCTC had a lead of 31-27, but CLC squeaked ahead for the final.
Nick Rooney went 18 for 38 passing for 316 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Tanner Menke was 1 for 2 passing for 46 yards and one touchdown.
Patrick Bolton caught six passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns.
Camren Dearing had three catches for 61 and Marley Allison caught five passes for 24 yards. Virgil Hammond had 67 yards rushing on 21 carries.
In total, RCTC had 442 total yard, 362 passing and 80 rushing.
The team’s next game is the Homecoming game this Saturday, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
