Yellowjackets win at home
The first home games for the Volleyball and Football Yellowjackets were a success.
Volleyball played Fergus Falls Friday, Aug. 29, at the Performance Court. The team posted a 25-11, 25-12, 25-12 win.
Brianna Atkins had 21 kills and 11 digs. Amberlee Dunagan had 26 set assists. Natalie Reinardy had 14 digs and Haley Lenz 13.
Saturday’s game was a hard loss to Ridgewater, losing after five games: 25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Atkins had 34 kills and 12 digs. Dunagan had 48 set assists and 13 digs. Lenz had 31 digs.
The Yellowjacket Volleyball team is ranked ninth in the NJCAA polls. The next game is on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. vs. MN West. The RCTC Invitational is Sept. 5-6 here at RCTC.
Football posted a 48-0 win against Mesabi Range at its first home game Saturday, Aug. 30.
The Yellowjackets got three touchdowns in the first quarter and led 35-0 at the half.
Quarterback Nick Rooney was 17 for 24 for 285 yards and five touchdowns. Virgil Hammond rished 109 yards on nine carries.
Offense had 449 yards while defense forced four turnovers and held Mesabi Range to 134 yards.
The football team plays long-standing rival Central Lakes on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Brainerd.
The soccer game scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29, was postponed. The Yellowjackets will play their first home game on Wednesday, Sept. 3, against Anoka-Ramsey at 5 p.m.
