Yellowjackts bring home title wins
The Yellowjacket volleyball and football teams brought wins in their respective title games this weekend, volleyball the NJCAA Region XIIIA title and football the MCAC State Champion title.
The Region XIIIA tournament was held Nov. 7-8 at the Regional Sports Center. On Friday, the Yellowjackets defeated Fergus Falls 25-19, 25-12, and 25-10 in the semifinals and progressed to the finals versus rival Ridgewater on Saturday, Nov. 8.
At the noon game, RCTC swept Ridgewater 25-13, 25-20 and 25-14. RCTC has beaten Ridgewater three out of four matches this season.
Against Fergus Falls, Brianna Atkins had 16 kills and 11 digs; Danielle Adams had seven kills; and Emily Kingland had six kills and three blocks.
In the match against Ridgwater, Brianna Atkins had 10 digs and 17 kills; Amberlee Dunagan had 31 assists and five digs; Haley Lenz had 28 digs; and Natalie Reinardy had 24 digs.
The NJCAA DIII National Volleyball Tournament will be held at the Regional Sports Center on the RCTC campus Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15. The Yellowjackets take on Davidson on Friday at 11 a.m. See the linked bracket for more information.
Once again, the Yellowjackets brought another state title home, beating rival Central Lakes in the MCAC State Championship title by almost 20 points, 40-21. This is the 18th time in the last 19 years that RCTC has won the state championship title.
Quarterback Nick Rooney was 20 for 28 with four touchdowns and 215 yards passing. Marley Allison and Patrick Bolton each caught two touchdown passes. Ruan Albuquerque had a 48-yard field goal at the end of the first half. RCTC had four interceptions in the fourth quarter.
The Yellowjackets have earned a bowl bid, and they will plays Iowa Central in the Graphic Edge Bowl on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m.
